NONNIE’S ACADEMY cc follows the prescribed Namibian Educational Curriculum.
Pre-Primary Gr.00 & Preschool Gr.0
Since 2010 Namibia has its own pre-primary curriculum, which was compiled by various experts in the field of early childhood development. The curriculum is based on: Stepping Stones by Grove and Haptenic; All-inOne and The South African Teacher Association Manual for Teaching (3-5 years). The focus of our curriculum will be on the development of the child in every aspect (a holistic approach ̶ emotional, perceptual, motorial, social and intellectual development). Activities in the curriculum provide the learner with a general basis to help him/her to master specific academic skills at a later stage. Activities, games and songs form an active part of the curriculum, and stimulate the creative development of the child. Activities encourage the child to become independent and build a positive selfesteem that is needed for school readiness.
Foundation phase (Grade 1 to Grade 3)
In the foundation phase, we focus on teaching the foundational skills, concepts and knowledge which is required for further learning. We offer a vibrant, invitational atmosphere where the learners enjoy coming to school and where they acquire a love for learning that will sustain them throughout their school years. We acknowledge the potential in each learner to reach optimum ability; therefore, there is less emphasis on competitiveness and more emphasis on individual achievement. We encourage opportunities for growth in independence and responsibility so that learners can take up the challenge of being personally responsible and accountable for their actions in the intermediate phase.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In the intermediate phase, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. Application of skills and concepts is also a focus area in this phase. This phase aims to prepare learners for the senior phase in the high school. We promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging children to make their own choices within well-established boundaries.
How does NONNIE’S ACADEMY cc facilitate their students?
We operate as a normal school for full-time students using face-to-face methods in a classroom set-up. We facilitate a small number of students per group. Each group has a teacher who facilitates the learner’s subjects for the year. All learners receive enough individual attention, daily, which makes it possible for each learner to reach his/her full potential, each term. Our Centre has a home atmosphere that makes kids feel at ease and fun-loving staff that makes them feel loved.
